Portpatrick's Annual RNLI Fund Raising efforts began around 1977.
Initially, it was just a WEEKEND of events that were arranged by the local RNLI members and friends/families.
These events were organised to coincide with the annual 'Glasgow Fair' holidays, when the village
population increased greatly!
In the early 80s, the Crew, Committee, Ladies Guild, families and helpers decided
to increase this weekend of events to a full week, and LIFEBOAT WEEK was born!
Over the years, this particular week in PORTPATRICK's calendar has become increasingly popular, and
is now the busiest week of the year for this lovely village.
We like to think that EVERYBODY benefits from our LIFEBOAT WEEK!
Our aim of course, is to raise as much money as possible for our Lifeboat Institution, and we certainly
have excelled in this!
[Over the last few years we have raised over £23,000 a year for the RNLI] which is not bad for
such a small village!]
This is all due to the generosity of you folks out there in CYBERSPACE [and of course who come year
on year to support us,] and have made it Portpatrick's busiest week of the year for the last several years!
An added bonus, is the beneficial effect it has on the 'local economy', and several local
businesses have expressed their appreciation by sponsoring some of our LB Week events,
I have tried to express our gratitude to these kind business folk, by providing a 'link' to their
business web sites on our 2009 LB WEEK Event Programme, and for those other kind sponsors, who are not yet on the World Wide Web, we have expressed our heartfelt
thanks through the printed version of the Lifeboat Week Programme.
On behalf of the PORTPATRICK LIFEBOAT COMMITTEE, CREW, SHOP / MUSEUM Management & Staff and Family
helpers... OUR SINCERE THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
And just in case you missed the link above ~ here it is again!
